Christmas City USA — Downtown Bethlehem & the Bethlehem Star

Downtown Bethlehem Historic District · Bethlehem, PA

Bethlehem has been 'Christmas City, USA' since 1937, and its holiday season is a citywide display: Main Street's trees wrapped in white lights, single candles glowing in the windows of the historic Moravian district (a UNESCO World Heritage settlement), Moravian stars hung from porches and lampposts, a city tree lighting, a Live Advent Calendar performed at downtown businesses Dec 1-23, and Luminaria Night lining neighborhood streets with candle bags. Watching over it all from South Mountain is the 91-foot electric Star of Bethlehem — first lit Dec 7, 1937, re-lamped with 238 LEDs in 2025 by the city's Electrical Bureau, lit dusk to dawn year-round and visible from more than 20 miles away.
