A colonial-era holiday tradition that kicks off the Christmas season in Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area. On Grand Illumination Saturdays the town illuminates: candles glow in windows, cressets are lit, the Historic Area is dressed in its famous natural wreaths and greenery, musical performances fill the streets, and two grand fireworks displays are set off from the Capitol and the Governor's Palace. The outdoor spectacle is free and open to all.
